Women's Business Network

of the Northern Neck

Entering Our Fourth Year Of Networking

Another year has gone by October 23, 2009 which marks the third anniversay of the Women's Business Network of the Northern Neck.  This past year's economy has added an extra dimension to the ideal of women supporting each other and networking together to form a strong alliance.   Sharon Dunavant and Katherine Smith are two of the original five members who, when confronted with a general lack of interest and non-participation in a getting-to-meet-you event, decided to do something about it.  From that first meeting of five, to the second meeting of 15, the Women's Business Network has grown into a network of more than 150 women.

Born from necessity, the Women's Business Network now operates in three counties and in monthly meetings is spreading the word that members are serious about making a mark in the business community.   This is an organization for all business women, whether they own and operate a business, work for a company, volunteer for an organization, or are retired and still want to network.   These women are all different and interesting and look forward to opportunites that networking offers.

Women have found employees for their business and have found new employment opportunities through networking at the meetings.  By alternating the meetings between three counties, and also alternating luncheon and dinner meetings, there is a good flow of energy, new people are welcomed by the regulars and solid friendships are being formed.

Current President Sharon Dunavant, one of the original five, will pass the torch to incoming President Bryce Hall for 2010.    We invite you to attend a meeting and JOIN this expanding innovative networking group of business women.

What is the Northern Neck?

The Northern Neck is the northernmost of three peninsulas on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The “northern” part of the name Northern Neck refers to its location north of Jamestown, while the “neck” part refers to the actual shape of the peninsula.  Bounded by the Potomac River on the north and the Rappahannock River on the south, the peninsula’s 8,200 square miles provide a rural retreat for its 50,000 residents, who are divided among the Northern Neck’s counties of Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland and King George.

The region is rich in scenic beauty, with 1100 miles of shoreline containing beaches, marinas, old steamship wharfs and small towns that date back to colonial times.
